Hiroshige Utagawa the 3rd generation

Tempo 13th (1842) born, Meiji 27th (1894) died
He entered as a disciple to the Hiroshige Utagawa family, married with Hiroshige’s adopted daughter and succeeded.

In the early Meiji era, through the hard waves of civilization opening up, he positively drawn for steam locomotives, steamboats, Western-style buildings, scattered heads people and others. Among them, the Nishikie of the railroad opened between Shinbashi and Yokohama in Meiji 5th drawn by Hiroshige the 3rd spread among people in a blink of an eye.

Hiroshige the 3rd heavily used the bright red with imported aniline red, its picture was so called red painting, though it made somewhat noisy but, in fact, it reflected the restless society of those days.

People also had a strong curiosity towards civilization opening up incorporating Western culture.
Steam locomotive by Hiroshige the 3rd, Ginza brick street, Tsukiji hotel pavilion, Expo, carriage and rickshaw, parliamentary situation, etc were news, taken home all over the country as a Tokyo souvenir.
