Toyokuni Utagawa the 4th (Kunisada Utagawa the 2nd)

Bunsei 6th (1823) born, Meiji 13th (1880) died
A disciple of Kunisada Utagawa. The sign was Ichijusai, Baishoro, Horaisha in his Kuniyoshi the 2nd days, and Kochoro, Ichiyoshi, Horaisha in Toyokuni the 4th days.

He was introduced to Kunisada Utagawa (Toyokuni the 3rd) family in Tenpo 7th (1836), and became the moth of Toyokuni the 3rd’s eldest daughter in Kaei 3rd (1850), and he succeeded the name of "Kunimasa" and named Kunimasa Utagawa the 2nd.
In Kaei 5th, (1852) when he was 30 years old, he signed as "Kunisada the 2nd, changed by Kunimasa".

Toyokuni the 3rd died in Genji 1st (1864), and subsequently named "Toyokuni the 4th" in about Meiji 3rd (1870).
During the period of the Kunisada the 2nd, from the end of Edo to the early Meiji period, Genji's paintings were mostly drawn, but theatrical paintings were also drawn, and he also participated in the cooperative work "Gojyoraku Tokaido". He also draw for steam boats and Megane-Baishi. Mainly painted actors, beauty and genre paintings.
