In the middle of the Heian period, a big incident occurred that shook Japan. It is the Rebellion of Masakado Taira. Masakado Taira is also said to be one of the three great ghosts of Japan, but it also has the aspect of being a god enshrined in Kanda Myojin. It was a rebellion against the Imperial Court in Kyoto, which was the central government at that time, on behalf of the common people in the Kanto region. Masakado used to serve in the Imperial Court in Kyoto when he was young, but he moved back to Kanto, where his territory was. Although he was fighting within the Heike clan, he expanded his power with the help of the generals of the Kanto region who were dissatisfied with the central government of Kyoto. Common people and samurai in the Kanto region were suffering from the high tribute of the central government. The Masakado Army was strong and defeated the pursuit force sent from Kyoto. Masakado called himself the new emperor and moved to establish an independent nation in the Kanto region. However, Masakado was slaughtered by the flow arrow of the subjugation army. This picture is the Masakado as magnificent and bold composition Art designed by Yoshitoshi Tsukioka.
