This is a rare landscape painting by the genius Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
In the Edo period, the area around Asakusa was called the Miyato River in the Sumida River.
It seems that eels are picked up in this area, and in the vicinity of Tokyo Bay, which was also called Edomae, a lot of seafood was picked up, and it became the material for Edomae sushi.
"Miyatogawa" is also famous as a storyteller of “Rakugo”.
When a young man living in Koami-cho, Hanshichi, was hanging out because his shogi was too late to enter the house, he met his childhood friend Hana and decided to stay with his uncle.
After that, they became a married couple, but one day, Hana went missing on the way back from visiting Sensoji Temple.
Hanshichi desperately searches, but cannot find her, and hears that Hana has been killed by the boatman of the Miyato River.
He notices that it was a in the dream story when Hanshichi wakes up in the mourning and he was relieved to know that Hana have returned safely from Sensoji Temple.
The area around Asakusa was the most prosperous area in eastern Japan during the Edo period and was the center of culture, so various episodes remain.
