Shizuoka Gozen was a reputed beauty in Kyoto.
She became the wife of Yoshitsune Minamoto, the hero of the late Heian period, who won the battle in Genpei.
However, Yoshitsune Minamoto got his position without the permission of his brother, Yoritomo Minamoto, therefore got angry from Yoritomo.
One day, Masatoshi Tosanobo of Yoritomo's subordinate visited Horikawa-yakata where Yoshitsune and Shizuka lives.
Yoshitsune had no doubts, but Shizuoka Gozen felt the strange sign from Tosanobo’s behavior.
"Tosanobo may be attacking tonight." Shizuka Gozen advised, but Yoshitsune was not preparing for the battle.
That night, Tosanobo hit Horikawa-yakata.
Yoshitsune tried to intercept without armor, but Shizuka Gozen had already prepared the armor, and let Yoshitsune wear it.
That night Yoshitsune managed to repel Tosanobo, but Yoshitsune's armor had many arrows.
Shizuoka Gozen was not only beautiful, but also a very intelligent woman. Yoshitsune and Shizuka Gozen were very close couples.
